Microsoft Comes to Town

On Thursday 13th March, King Edward VII School hosted a visit from Neil Iles, senior education consultant with Microsoft. The school is one of a select group of Microsoft Key schools in the UK and, during the day, Neil had opportunities to work alongside students. He visited students following courses in lens media using digital cameras, design software and music in multi-media presentations, talked with students about their ideas for ICT in the future and visited Science to see students making and listening to podcasts.
Thursday was also the day when Year 7 and 8 journalists hit the BBC website, working throughout the day to produce local stories for parents and the community as part of a national project. Their reports hit the school website by the end of the day.
"We're delighted to welcome Neil to King Edward VII School," said Principal Chris Williams, "The day should give him a real flavour of the fantastic work our students do in using new technologies for learning and developing skills for adult life."
As well as its work with Microsoft, King Edward VII is an established Technology College and was shortlisted for the national 2007 Education Business Awards for its ICT facilities.
