Young Designer of the Year Award

At the end of last term King Edward VII School nominated a student to be put forward for the Rotary Club Young Designer Award. The Rotary Club in Melton do a fantastic job of supporting young people in the community and raising money for charitable events. Rebecca Jenkins was asked to take her coursework piece and explain how her design, for a new type of board game, was innovative and pushing the boundaries of the design of teaching aids.

Rebecca’s project allowed young students, aged 5-11, to teach themselves about the weather in a fun and interactive way. The board game shape was completely different to anything else currently on the market. It was a water drop shape, resting on 2 interlocking rainbows. The users gradually make their way up to the top of the water droplet, answering challenging questions along the way.

Rebecca really impressed the judges, winning first place. She received a camera and £100 for the school. This money is being spent on a new colour printer and scanner that can be used for future Rotary Club Young Designer Winners.
