U16 County Netball tournament - Wednesday 8th October

Looking extremely smart in their new netball dresses, the girls left school excited at the challenge ahead, having finished runners up in Year 10 to Loughborough High School.

The opening group stages consisted of 3 matches, the first against Sir Jonathan North, then De Lisle and Bosworth College. Each game was won comfortably which saw us progress as group champions to face Our Ladies Convent school in the quarter final. By this time it was starting to get dark and the newly installed flood lights at Leicester Grammar School failed to illuminate, therefore the match was played and won in almost total darkness.

The semi final was then moved into the sports hall where we met John Cleveland College. It was a very tense match which went to extra time – a repeat of last year’s match. Fortunately, owing to Annabelle’s confident shooting and a last minute goal in the second half of extra time, we progressed to the final.

The final match, once again against Loughborough High School, was a very even affair to start with, the goals going with the centre pass. Through hard work, determination, effort and a great display by Rosie Dymond, we finally got the advantage and the game finished 7-5. King Edward VII were well deserved champions!

The girls will now go on to represent Leicestershire at the regional competition to be held later in the year. Congratulations to all the girls: Annabelle Saxby, Amelia Oakman, Daisy Holland, Tiffany Allen, Gemma Smith, Natalie Grindey, Ria Thompson, Rosie Dymond & Sophie Mee.

I would also like to thank Patrick Oakman for umpiring and all of the girls’ parents for their support.
